Beavers overcome slow start to top Tigers
The Tenino football team kicked it into gear as the game rolled along on Friday, as the Beavers pulled away from Centralia in the second half for a 48-20 victory. The Tigers scored the game’s first 14 points on a pair of first quarter touchdowns, but Tenino responded with 14 points of its own before the second. Centralia scored the next touchdown about midway through the second to take a 20-14 lead, but the Beavers would score the final five touchdowns of the game, including four in the second half. Once the Tenino offense got rolling, it was difficult to slow it down. Michael Vassar raced for 222 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, while Mason Metcalf threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns through the air. All three of those touchdowns went to Austin Gonia, who tallied 166 yards on just five catches. The Tigers were held scoreless in the second half, but Kellen Rooklidge still tallied 162 total yards and scored two touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air. Donovan Galloway scored the other Centralia touchdown, and he finished with 33 yards rushing on six attempts. Terrell Sanders went 9 for 16 through the air, tallying 73 yards and the touchdown to Rooklidge. Both teams will begin league play next week, as Tenino (3-1) will host Montesano and Centralia (0-4) will head north to face Black Hills. |
